HOLDING ON TO YESTERDAY

HOLDING ON TO YESTERDAY

I plucked you from the where's Waldo of life
We could've been so many great things
But you walked back into that crowd
So fast that you forgot to say goodbye

Maybe not tomorrow or next week or even next year
But you’ll wake up and realize what you had
In the meantime, I’ll wait for you to return

I can’t win no matter what I do
No matter who I let in
But I keep giving myself to them

I chose you from the crowd
We would’ve owned this life
But you slapped me in the face
So quick that you never gave us a chance

Maybe not tomorrow or next week or even next year
But you’ll wake up and realize what you had
In the meantime, I’ll wait for you to return

I can’t let you go no matter what I say
Regardless of what I tell myself
But I keep holding on to yesterday
